NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF HONDURAS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Efrain Diaz Arrivillaga, the new Permanent Representative of Honduras to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Diaz Arrivillaga had been serving as Ambassador of Honduras to Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland and Turkey since 2010. He followed a political career in the 1980s and 1990s, chairing a political party, serving as a deputy to the Honduran National Congress (1982 to 1990), running as a presidential candidate (1989), and serving as a deputy to the Central American Parliament (1991 to 1996), among others. He also worked as an independent consultant from 1980 to 2010 and in the seventies, worked in various capacities dealing with economic and agricultural planning, research and development.

Mr. Diaz Arrivillaga taught agricultural economics at the Universidad Nacional Autònoma de Honduras from 1977 to 1981 and was a professor of international relations at the Catholic University of Honduras in 2010. He has produced extensive research work on agricultural and sustainable development issues and globalization.

Mr. Diaz Arrivillaga was born on 30 July, 1944 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He has a Bachelor’s degree in economics from Georgetown University, Washington (1965) and a Master’s degree in agricultural economics from Kansas State University, Kansas (1969).
