NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF UNITED KINGDOM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Karen Elizabeth Pierce, the new Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Pierce had been serving since 2009 as Director for Afghanistan and South Asia at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where she focused on stability, security and prosperity in Afghanistan and Pakistan in particular. From June 2010 to June 2011, she served as the United Kingdom’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. From 2006 to 2009, she was the Deputy Permanent Representative at the United Kingdom’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Ms. Pierce joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1981 and has served in Tokyo and Washington. She has also held a number of posts at the Office. She has a wide range of bilateral and multilateral experience, particularly on conflict and related issues.

Ms. Pierce is married and has two children.
