NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SPAIN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Ana Maria Menendez Perez, the new Permanent Representative of Spain to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Menendez Perez had been serving as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Spain in Tunisia since 2009. From 2008 to 2009, she was Deputy Director General of the United Nations Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain. She served at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the United Nations in New York from 1998 to 2005, first as Counsellor, and then as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative. She also worked at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the United Nations in New York from 1990 to 1996 as Counsellor.

A career diplomat, Ms. Menendez Perez joined the Spanish Diplomatic Service in 1985. She served in the Embassy of Spain in Japan as First Secretary from 1988 to 1990, and as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Spain in Ireland from 2006 to 2008. She has also held various posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ms. Menendez Perez has a law degree. She was born in Madrid on 1 September 1960.
