NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CHINA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Liu Zhenmin, the new Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Liu had been China’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2009. Between 2006 and 2009 he toured New York in the United States as Deputy Permanent Representative to the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations. From 1995 to 2006 Mr. Liu served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Department of Treaty and Law as First Secretary Counselor, then as Deputy Director-General and in 2003 as Director General. From 1992 to 1995, Mr. Liu held the positions of Second Secretary, and consequently First Secretary, to the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva. A career diplomat, Mr. Liu joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 where he served in various positions in the Department of Treaty Law.
Mr. Liu graduated from Peking University in 1978, where he had studied within the Department of English Language and Literature. He completed a Master’s Degree in Law at the Law School of Peking University in 1981. Mr. Liu was born in 1955 and is married.
