NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF THE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF LA FRANCOPHONIE PRESENTS LETTER OF NOMINATION TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Ridha Bouabid, the new Permanent Observer of The International Organization of La Francophonie (IOF), today presented his letter of nomination to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Bouabid had been leading the IOF’s Peace and Security Division since 2005. From 1995 to 2005, he served as the first Permanent Representative of the IOF to the United Nations in New York, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Mr. Bouabid joined the IOF in 1990 as a Director, Advisor of the Secretary-General on cooperation with international organizations.
The new Permanent Observer of the IOF began his diplomatic career in 1979 with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia. He held various positions in the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Presidency of the Republic, the Permanent Mission of Tunisia to the United Nations in New York and the Tunisian embassy in France. During his career, Mr. Bouabid has participated in many international meetings and diplomatic conferences, notably on questions related to economic and social development, international law, human rights and international humanitarian law.
Mr. Bouabid holds a Master degree in law and a lawyer's diploma from the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences at the Tunis University. Mr. Bouabid was born in 1956 and is a national of Tunisia.
