NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ZIMBABWE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Presentation of Credentials
James Manzou, the new Permanent Representative of Zimbabwe to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Manzou had been serving as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Angola since 2001. He was appointed by then United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan to the United Nations Security Council Monitoring Committee on Sanctions against UNITA from 2000 to 2001. He also served as Political Counsellor at the Zimbabwe Mission to the United Nations in New York from 1983 to 1989.
A career diplomat, Mr. Manzou served as Deputy Ambassador in Bonn, German from 1994 to 1996 and in Moscow, Russia from 1992 to 1994. He served as Under Secretary for Multilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Zimbabwe from 1996 to 2000 and as Under Secretary for Africa and Middle East Affairs from 1990 to 1992.
Born on 10 December 1957, Mr. Manzou has a B.A. in political science and international relations from the University of Zimbabwe in Harare (1979) and an M.B.A. from St Johns University in New York (1986). He is married with two children.
