NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF THE ORGANIZATION OF THE ISLAMIC CONFERENCE PRESENTS LETTER OF NOMINATION TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Slimane Chikh, the new Permanent Observer of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, today presented his letter of nomination to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Chikh, an Algerian national, had been working as a Professor associated with the University of Algiers since 2004. Concurrently, he was the President of the Moufdi Zakaria Foundation. In 2007, he taught at the University of Reims. From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Chikh served as Algeria’s Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Delegate to the League of Arab States.
Mr. Chikh has been a public figure in Algeria for many years, serving as a member of the Council of the Nation from 1998 to 2001; Minister of National Education from 1995 to 1997; Minister of Culture from 1994 to 1995; Counselor at the Presidency of Algeria from 1992 to 1994; Minister of National Education and Training from 1988 to 1989; Rector of the University of Algiers from 1982 to 1984; and Director of the Institute for Political Science and Information of the University of Algiers from 1975 to 1978.
Mr. Chikh’s work has been published extensively and he has lectured at the University of Algiers, the University of Aix in Marseille, the Laval University in Quebec, the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and the University of Reims. He has a number of university degrees, including a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Grenoble. He was born on 13 July 1940 in Beni Isguen, Ghardaia, Algeria.
