NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF JORDAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Shehab Madi, the new Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Madi had been serving as Jordan’s Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation since 2008. He was Jordan’s Ambassador to Austria, and concurrently non-resident Ambassador to Hungary, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Slovenia and the Slovak Republic from 2004 to 2008. In 2004, he served both as Permanent Representative of Jordan to the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations Organization at Vienna. From 2000 to 2004, he served as Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.
A career diplomat, Mr. Madi has also served as Second Secretary for information at the Jordanian Embassy in Washington from 1973 to 1977. He served as Personal Secretary of Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan, and then as Director of his Office, from 1977 to 1987. He was a Fellow at the Center for International Affairs at Harvard University from 1989 to 1991; and he was a political and information officer with the United Nations Compensation Commission in Geneva from 1992 to 1999.
Mr. Madi has a B.A. and an M.A. in political science and history from the University of Arizona in the United States. He was born on 4 July, 1946 in Amman, Jordan. He is married with two children.
