NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF VIET NAM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Vu Dung, the new Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Vu had been serving as the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam and member of the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation since 2004. He was Viet Nam’s Ambassador to Japan from 2000 to 2003. From 1993 to 1999, Mr. Vu worked at the President’s Office, first in charge of external affairs, then as Director-General for the External Relations Department, and finally as Vice Chairman of the President’s Office.

Mr. Vu studied at the University of Foreign Languages and started his career as an interpreter and a lecturer. He then served at Viet Nam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 1979 to 1983. Other Ministry of Foreign Affairs posts include serving as at the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry fro m 1983 to 1989, and at Viet Nam’s Embassy in the Philippines from 1989 to 1993.

Mr. Vu was born on 5 April 1949 in Nam Dinh in Viet Nam. He has three BA degrees in foreign languages, military science and political science, and has attended graduate courses in the Philippines and the United States. He is married with two children.
