NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MADAGASCAR PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Guy Rajemison Rakotomaharo, the new Permanent Representative of Madagascar to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, from 2002 until 2008, Mr. Rajemison Rakotomaharo had been serving as the President of the Senate of Madagascar. He began his public career in 1999 as a municipal counsellor in the capital, Antananarivo, rising to Deputy Mayor in 2000 and then to Mayor ad interim of Antananarivo, a post which he held from 2001 to 2002.

Before entering public service, Mr. Rajemison Rakotomaharo had a 20-year career in the private sector in a number of different capacities including Adviser to the Managing Director; Human Resources Director; Chief Administrative and Financial Officer; Director of Purchasing; Managing Director; Director of Internal Accounts; and Agency Director. He held these posts while working in a number of different sectors, including shipping and transport; the food and agricultural sector; and the services sector.

Mr. Rajemison Rakotomaharo has a master's degree in business management.

Born on 12 January 1950, Mr. Rajemison Rakotomaharo is married with three children.
