NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BURKINA FASO PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Prosper Vokouma, the new Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Vokouma had been serving as Secretary-General of the National Assembly of Burkina Faso since 2000. From 1995 to 2000, he was a Political Counselor to the President of the National Assembly. From 1993 to 1995, he was Ambassador of Burkina Faso to the United States. He has represented his Government in a number of United Nations and other international meetings and conferences.

Mr. Vokouma worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso from 1989 to 1991. From 1987 to 1989, he was Secretary-General of the Government and of the Council of Ministers of Burkina Faso. During 1987, he was Governor of the province of Naouri. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and from that date until 1987, he worked, first as Head of the Division of the Direction of Bilateral Cooperation and then as Director for Political Affairs of the Ministry.

Mr. Vokouma has a degree in geography from the University of Ouagadougou (1975) and a number of other diplomas, including from the same university and from the Institute of International Relations of Cameroon and the Centre for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies in Paris. He was born on 4 August 1955 in Ziniare, Burkina Faso. He is married with four children.
