NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF NORWAY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Bente Angell-Hansen, the new Permanent Representative of Norway to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Angell-Hansten was serving as Ambassador of Norway to Hungary since 2005. From 2000 to 2005, she was Director-General at the Department of International Affairs at the Office of the Prime Minister of Norway.

From 1998 to 2000, Ms. Angell-Hansen was Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where from 1995 to 1998 she was also Assistant Director-General at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1993 to 1995, she was Assistant Director-General at the Department of External Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from 1991 to 1993, she was Head of Division in the same Department. From 1990 to 1991, she was Head of Division at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs.

From 1986 to 1990, Ms. Angell-Hansen was Executive Officer at the North-South Section of the Department of Multilateral Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1982 to 1985, she was Attaché/Second Secretary at the Norwegian Embassy in Canberra, Australia. In 1979, she was a Foreign Services trainee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ms. Angell-Hansen was, from 1978 to 1979, Executive Officer at the Ministry of Trade and Shipping, and from 1976 to 1978, a Research Fellow at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs.

Ms. Angell-Hansen holds a Decree in Social Sciences from the University of Oslo.

She was born on 15 December 1951.
