NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF UGANDA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Arsene M. Balihuta, the new Permanent Representative of Uganda to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzonikidze, the Director-General to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Balihuta had been working since 1992 at the Faculty of Economics and Management at Makerere University in Uganda as a Lecturer, Associate Professor and Deputy Dean. During this period he has acted as a Consultant to the United Nations Development Programme, the World Bank, the International Labour Office, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development, the Food and Agriculture Organization and the Danish International Development Agency.
Mr. Balihuta was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Economics at the University of the Pacific in California, United States to 1997 to 1998. He worked at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, United States from 1988 to 1992. He was a Teaching Assistant at Makerere University from 1984 to 1986. He also worked as a Statistical Officer and later as Assistant Manager at an insurance company from 1972 to 1981.
Mr. Balihuta has a PhD in economics from the University of Notre Dame (1992) and an MA in economics from the same University (1988). He got his Bachelors degree in economics from Makerere University (1984). He has carried out extensive research which has been published.
Born on 16 January 1952, Mr. Balihuta is married with three children.
