NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF DENMARK PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Marie-Louise Overvad, the new Permanent Representative of Denmark to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Overvad had been serving since September 2003 as Under-Secretary for Political Affairs and Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark in Copenhagen. From March 2000 until September 2003, she was the Representative of Denmark at the Political and Security Committee of the European Union in Brussels. In 2001, she served concurrently as the Permanent Representative of Denmark to the Western European Union.
From 1999 to 2000, Ms. Overvad served as Deputy Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen. From 1996 to 1999, she was Ambassador to Finland, and from 1991 to 1996, Permanent Representative of Denmark to the Council of Europe in Strasburg. From 1989 to 1991, she was Head of the Personnel Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, prior to which, in 1988, she was Special Advisor on Personnel Planning and Education at the Ministry.

From 1980 to 1983, Ms. Overvad served as First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations Office at Geneva.

From 1974 to 1975, Ms. Overvad undertook European Studies at the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium, and in 1974, she received the degree of Candidata Juris from the University of Copenhagen.

Ms. Overvad was born in 1951 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is married with two children.
