NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF LITHUANIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Eduardas Borisovas, the new Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Borisovas had been serving as Lithuania's Consul General in Saint Petersburg in the Russian Federation, a post he held since 2004. Between 2001 and 2004, he held a number of posts, including as Representative of Lithuania in the Committee of Senior Officials of the Baltic Sea States; Acting Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania; Ambassador-at-Large for the Baltic Sea States Regional Cooperation Affairs of the European Department of the Ministry; Ambassador-at-Large for the Regional Cooperation Affairs of the Ministry Advisers Group; and Head of the Group for the Regional Cooperation of the Ministry.

In 1998, Mr. Borisovas was assigned to Geneva where he first served as Minister Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the United Nations Office at Geneva and eventually as Charge d'Affaires in 2000. Concurrently, he also served as Rapporteur and member of the Bureau of the Council of the International Organization for Migration from 2000 to 2001.

Mr. Borisovas joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania in 1990 as a First Secretary of the Regions Division. In 1991, he took on the post of First Secretary in charge of information at the Lithuanian Embassy in Poland. Other foreign assignments include being Chargé d'Affaires of Lithuania in the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic in 1992; and in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic in 1993 and 1994.

Prior to his diplomatic career, Mr. Borisovas worked from 1986 to 1989 as a journalist after having received a degree in journalism from Vilnius State University. He has received a number of decorations from his own country as well as from Denmark, France and Poland.

Born on 30 August 1964, Mr. Borisovas is married and has two children.
