NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ARGENTINA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Alberto Juan Dumont, the new Permanent Representative of Argentina to the United Nations Office at Geneva, the World Trade Organization and other international organizations in Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Dumont had been serving since 2003 as Secretary of State for Industry, Trade and Small and Medium Enterprise at the Ministry of Economy and Production of Argentina. From 2002 to 2003, he served as Coordinator of the Technical Assistance Programme for Development Countries (investment), at the Trade and Finance Division of the World Trade Organization in Geneva. And from 1999 to 2002, Mr. Dumont served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Argentina in Geneva in charge of the activities of World Trade Organization, the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Mr. Dumont was the Director for MERCOSUR at the Assistant Secretariat for Latin American Economic Integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina from 1997 to 1999. Other positions held by Mr. Dumont abroad include serving as Minister at the Argentine Embassy in the United Kingdom, in charge of all trade and financial relations with the British Government, and Head of the Trade Promotion Department of the Embassy from 1990 to 1994; Counsellor in charge of GATT activities at the Permanent Mission of Argentina in Geneva from 1980 to 1986; and Second Secretary at the Argentine Embassy in Egypt in charge of trade relations and trade promotion from 1978 to 1980.

During his career, Mr. Dumont has held a number of other positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, and the Ministry of Economy. He has also represented his country at numerous international, regional and bilateral conferences and meetings.

Born in Buenos Aires on 26 March 1950, Mr. Dumont has a degree in economics from the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires. He is married and has two children.
