PRESIDENT OF CONFERENCE ON DISARMAMENT PROVIDES UPDATE ON STATUS OF CONSULTATIONS ON A PROGRAMME OF WORK

Meeting Summaries

The Conference on Disarmament this morning held a short plenary during which the President of the Conference provided an update on the current status of informal consultations for the adoption of a programme of work.

Ambassador Luiz Filipe De Macedo Soares of Brazil, President of the Conference on Disarmament, said that in the days since the last plenary he had been holding consultations with delegations individually on the possibility of adopting a programme of work as early as possible. Preferably this would happen during his presidency if possible or, if this was not possible, during a subsequent one. He would continue to hold individual consultations in the coming days with the delegations he had not met yet. It was important for him to have a personal contact with each individual delegation.

The next plenary meeting of the Conference on Disarmament will be held on Tuesday, 29 June at 10 a.m. in the Council Chamber.
