Prime Minister Shinawatra
Ambassador Thongphaki
Excellencies
Ladies and gentlemen:

It is my great pleasure and privilege to open this exhibition showcasing the close and productive partnership between the United Nations and Thailand. It is my great honour to welcome in the Palais des Nations Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. I sincerely thank you for your commitment and engagement in the work of the United Nations. I would also like to express my appreciation to Ambassador Thongphaki and the Permanent Mission of Thailand for the organization of this event.

As we see in this impressive exhibition, Thailand has been a strong and continuous proponent of multilateralism, even from the time of the League of Nations and until now. Thailand’s commitment to the principles and goals of the United Nations - from security, to development, to human rights – has been evident and is clearly appreciated by the international community. In addition, the personal commitment of Prime Minister Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra to empowering vulnerable groups is an objective which we also share, especially with regard to working with and for women and young people.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

As we enjoy these rich and historical photographs that take us from 1920 to the present day, let us mark Thailand’s contributions to the United Nations and to the international community as a whole, and express our profound gratitude to this magnificent country.

Thank you very much.

This speech is part of a curated selection from various official events and is posted as prepared.
