C’est pour moi un immense plaisir de vous accueillir à l’occasion de cette soirée tout à fait exceptionnelle. C’est également un très grand honneur que la Première de la Compagnie Forsythe ait lieu ici au Palais des Nations. Je tiens tout spécialement à remercier les Missions permanentes de la Suisse, des États-Unis et de l’Allemagne pour l’organisation de cet événement qui reflète l’histoire des droits de l’homme. Mes remerciements vont également au Département fédéral des affaires étrangères de la Confédération suisse, à la République et canton de Genève, ainsi qu’à la ville de Genève, pour leur soutien indéfectible.

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever their nationality, place of residence, gender, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status. We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination. Further, these rights are interrelated, interdependent and indivisible.

The respect for human rights forms one of the core principles of the work of the United Nations. It is enshrined in international law through the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Additionally, a host of international treaties and other universal instruments protect these rights. Here in Geneva, which is the world capital of human rights, and across the globe, the United Nations family works together with Governments to help them promote and protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms. The Human Rights Council - meeting here at the Palais des Nations - has taken the lead in addressing urgent human rights situations around the world, including in Libya and Syria.

Mesdames et Messieurs,
La Déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme a été traduite dans plus de trois cent langues ce qui contribue à démontrer son application universelle. Ce soir, nous allons assister à une nouvelle traduction artistique de cette déclaration. Cette représentation nous rappellera l’universalité des droits de l’homme.
