Launch of the latest global cancer data The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) today launches its latest estimates on the global burden of cancer. Available on IARC’s online database, Globocan 2018 is based on data from cancer registries in 185 countries and provides estimates of incidence and mortality for 36 cancers. The data highlights the great diversity of cancer and variations in the magnitude and profile of the disease between and within world regions.

The Office of the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria informs you that the International Syria Support Group's Humanitarian Access Task Force will convene tomorrow, Tuesday, 4 September 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The meeting will be followed by a press stakeout in Hall XIV at around 4:00 p.m., with the Special Envoy for Syria, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, and Mr. Jan Egeland, Senior Advisor of the Special Envoy. This is in addition to the press stakeout by Special Envoy for Syria recently announced also for Tuesday 4 September at 12:30.

Launch of the first-ever global estimates of insufficient physical activity among adults over time, from 2001-2016. The study was undertaken by WHO experts and describes changes in levels of physical activity of men and women in all regions of the world, how this impacts people’s health, and commitments countries have taken and can implement to respond to the health challenge posed by physical inactivity.
