UNEP/Stockholm Convention Press Conference
As part of the celebrations to mark the entry into force, a press conference will be held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, during which a live connection will be established with the Sea Dragon boat, anchored in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This scientific monitoring boat will set sail shortly after to document the extent of drifting plastic pollution and monitor deepwater fish for their POPs levels in the South Atlantic Ocean. The 5Gyres expedition (a collaboration between 5Gyres Institute, the Algalita Marine Research Foundation and Pangeae Explorations) conducted as part of a research project undertaken with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (University of California), is a partner of Safe Planet, the chemicals and waste conventions’ joint public awareness and outreach campaign. At 6:00 pm, at the Palais des Nations, we will also be hosting a reception with presentations and a live concert.
