In the Syrian Arab Republic, massive and systematised violence – including the killing of detainees in official and makeshift detention centres – has taken place out of sight, far from the battlefield. This paper examines the killing of detainees, on all sides of the conflict, occurring between 10 March 2011 and 30 November 2015. Estimates indicate that the 2015-2016 El Niño phenomenon will impact some 60 million people worldwide. We will present the new WHO El Niño and Health Global Overview, assessing a wide range of health impacts of El Niño. While the adverse climate effects of El Niño are expected to peak in January 2016 and wind down by April, the health consequences will last throughout 2016 and beyond.
