Press stakeout by the UN Special Envoy for Syria
WHO Press Conference
In the lead-up to World Health Day on 7 April, which this year focuses on depression, Dr. Shekhar Saxena, Director of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse at WHO, will outline the extent of depression as a public health problem and what needs to be done to increase access to care in countries of all income levels.
Dr. Saxena will provide examples of WHO’s work in supporting countries in scale-up of mental health care through training of non-specialist health-care workers among other actions. He will also outline plans for the second half of WHO’s . The campaign was launched in October 2016 and will last one year.
