The Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, Maria Grazia Giammarinaro, will discuss her report on trafficking in supply chains, and the efforts of multi-stakeholder initiatives and industry coalitions to address the issue.
Ms. Giammarinaro identifies and analyses main challenges in adopting voluntary standards and certification schemes to detect trafficking in companies’ supply chains. She also provides recommendations to strengthen voluntary standards and the certification processes to improve detection and remediation of cases of trafficking in persons. The report will be presented to the Human Rights Council on Friday 9 June. World No Tobacco Day 2017
On 30 May, on the eve of the annual World No Tobacco Day held every 31 May, WHO, the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) and the United Nations Development Programme will be staging a joint press conference focusing on how tobacco threatens sustainable development in all countries by causing the deaths of over 7 million people annually, sickening many more, exacerbating poverty, and, based on findings from a first-ever report to be released, inflicting great harm on the environment.
