WHO releases new data on increasing HIV drug resistance trends in several countries that could undermine progress in preventing and treating HIV. WHO is responding with new guidelines and a global action plan to prevent and tackle HIV drug resistance.

New UNAIDS report - ENDING AIDS—Progress Towards the 90-90-90 Targets

Embargoed for transmission and publication until 10 a.m. Geneva time, 9 a.m. GMT Thursday, 20 July 2017
The report will contain the latest data on the AIDS epidemic, which will include the new numbers of people on antiretroviral treatment, people living with HIV, new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths. It will also give detailed analysis of progress towards ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Launch of the World Health Organization Report on the Global Tobacco Epidemic-2017

This new report provides the latest evidence on the global tobacco epidemic and efforts by countries to protect people from the harms of tobacco by implementing key control measures.
The official launch of the report will take place in New York on 19 July.

The SDG Lab, ITU, UNICEF and WHO will present perspectives on and examples of using innovative technologies to achieve the SDGs.
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are changing how the world responds to humanity’s greatest challenges. Artificial intelligence, big data, FinTech, eHealth, and digital connectivity are increasingly providing individuals around the world with access to such vitally important resources as employment opportunities, online banking and healthcare. United Nations leaders are increasingly looking to ICTs to fast-forward efforts to achieve all 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Join experts to hear their perspectives and learn about real-time examples of how innovative technology is being used for social good—timed to coincide with the High Level Political Forum in New York City, during which progress on several SDGs is being assessed and 44 countries will present their national voluntary reviews.

SDG Lab will highlight the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), taking place in New York City, 10-19 July 2017, and the critical role of ICTs and ITU to support the achievement of the SDGs.

UNICEF will present the latest information on how innovative tech is being used to provide “children on the move” and those left behind by emergencies with access to education.

WHO will present its newest eHealth for Africa initiative.

ITU will launch the timely report Fast-forward progress: Leveraging tech to achieve the Global Goals, in which 27 UN and INGO heads share their perspectives on how and why “ICTs for SDGs” is critical.
