WHO Press Conference

Press Conference Announcement
World Immunization Week – celebrated in the last week of April – aims to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.
Immunization saves 2 to 3 million lives every year and is widely recognized as one of the world’s most successful and cost-effective health interventions.
This press briefing will provide updates on the progress of the WHO Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP), which aims to reach universal coverage with vaccines worldwide by 2020. It will also highlight gains in vaccination coverage and disease elimination in some countries and regions in the past year and how these gains need to become the norm in order to close the immunization gap.
Dr. Jean-Marie Okwo-Belé, Director of the Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals, WHO
