New Permanent Representative of Jamaica Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
Richard Brown, the new Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Brown had been serving as Acting Under-Secretary of the Foreign Trade Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica since April 2023. He was a Senior Director at the Foreign Trade Division from July 2021 to April 2023, and Director of Research, Services Sector Development, Technical and Capacity Building Support at the Division from February 2020 to June 2021.
A career diplomat and international trade specialist, Mr. Brown served at the Caribbean Community Secretariat from November 2017 to January 2020 as Director of the Caribbean Community’s Single Market and Sectoral Programmes. Among other posts, he served as an International Trade Specialist and Director of Trade at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries of Jamaica from February 2016 to March 2017. He was First Secretary/Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations Office at Geneva from January 2008 to January 2013.
Mr. Brown has a PhD in international economics from the Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland (2013). He has a post graduate certificate in diplomatic studies from Oxford University in Oxford, United Kingdom (2006). He has a Master of Science in economics from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus in Kingston, Jamaica (2003), and a Bachelor of Science in economics and management from the same University and Campus (2001).
