NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GUINEA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Arafan Kabinè Kaba, the new Permanent Representative of Guinea to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Mr. Kaba will also be Guinea’s Ambassador to Switzerland.

Mr. Kaba served as the Special Envoy of the President of Guinea to the United Nations in Geneva to mediate the political crisis with Togo in 2017 and 2018. From 2013 to 2019, he was Guinea’s Ambassador to Ghana and Togo. From 2004 to 2013, Mr. Kaba was based at the Permanent Mission of Guinea to the United Nations Office at Geneva, first as a Political Counsellor from 2004 to 2007, and then as a Minister Counsellor from 2007 to 2013. From 2008 to 2013, he was Guinea’s Permanent Observer to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.

A career diplomat, Mr. Kaba was a Political Counsellor at Guinea’s Embassy in Brussels to the Benelux countries – Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg, and to the European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of countries from 2002 to 2004. He also served at Guinea’s Embassy to the United States in 1998. He has held various posts at Guinea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Conakry as well as other foreign posts.

Mr. Kaba has a master’s degree in economic forestry from the Kirov de Leningrad Technical Academy in the Soviet Union (1976 to 1981) and a diploma of higher specialized education in economic forestry from the same Academy (1986-1988). He has a certificate in diplomacy and international relations from Pakistan’s Diplomatic Institute in Islamabad (1989 to 1990). Born on 1 January 1952 in Labé, Guinea, Mr. Kaba is married with three children.
