NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF HONDURAS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Giampaolo Carmelo Rizzo Alvarado, the new Permanent Representative of Honduras to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Rizzo Alvarado had been serving as Deputy Permanent Representative of Honduras to the United Nations Office at Geneva since August 2010, and as Charge d’Affaires a.i. since November 2013.

A career diplomat, he joined the Honduran Foreign Service in 2002, where, among other posts, he served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Honduras to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, the World Food Programme and IFAD, as well as Minister Counsellor of Honduras to Italy, and concurrently to Greece, Cyprus, Hungary and Romania; Minister Counsellor of Honduras to Sweden, and concurrently to Ireland and the Nordic and Baltic countries; and Counsellor of Honduras to the European Union and First Secretary to Belgium and Luxembourg.

Mr. Rizzo Alvarado has a degree in business administration from the Central American Technological University UNITEC and he undertook postgraduate studies. He was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on 4 March 1972.
