NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ICELAND PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Harald Aspelund, the new Permanent Representative of Iceland to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Aspelund served as Director General for Administration and Consular Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland from 2013 to 2017. He was a Director at the Directorate for External Trade and Economic Affairs at the Ministry from 2009 to 2013, and Director of Human Resources at the Ministry from 2008 to 2009.

Mr. Aspelund served as Minister Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Iceland to the United Nations in New York from 2004 to 2008, and as Minister Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Iceland to the United Nations in Geneva from 2000 to 2004. He joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1990, and worked at the Agricultural Bank of Iceland from 1989 to 1990.

Mr. Aspelund was born on 3 August 1964 in Iceland. He has a degree in economics from the University of Iceland (1989).
