NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SLOVAKIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Juraj Podhorsky, the new Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Podhorsky was the Director of the Office of the Minister, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, since 2014. In 2014, he was also the Director General for European Affairs at the Ministry. He served as Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Finland from 2010 to 2014.

Before his appointment to Finland, Mr. Podhorsky was the Director of the Security Policy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2007 to 2010. He also served as the Deputy Director of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2007. He served in the Permanent Delegation of the Slovak Republic to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Brussels, first as a Political Counsellor from 2002 to 2004, and then as Deputy Permanent Representative from 2004 to 2006.

Mr. Podhorsky joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993. From 1996 to 2000, he served as the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Copenhagen, Denmark. He held the position of the Adviser to the Director General, Division of International Organizations and Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from 2000 to 2001. From 2001 to 2002, he was the Head of the Office of the State Secretary at the Ministry of Defense.

Born on 31 March 1963, Mr. Podhorsky has a degree from the Economic University in Bratislava, Faculty of Trade (1981 to 1985); and a degree from the Institute of International Relations, Faculty of Law, Comenius University in Bratislava (1992 to 1995). He is married and has one daughter.
