NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF LAO PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Kham-Inh Khitchadeth, the new Permanent Representative of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Khitchadeth had been serving as Director-General of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic since June 2015. He was Deputy Director-General of the Department from October 2014 to June 2015. From 2011 to 2014, Mr. Khitchadeth was the Deputy Permanent Representation of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the United Nations in New York. He was also based at the Permanent Mission in New York from 1992 to 1995 as an attaché, and from 1986 to 1990 as the Ambassador’s Secretary. From 2003 to 2007, he served as First Secretary, Head of Administration, and Assistant of the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific at the Lao Embassy to Thailand.

A career diplomat, Mr. Khitchadeth joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in 1983. He has held a number of different positions at the Ministry, including as Deputy Director-General of the ASEAN Department of the Ministry from 2008 to 2011, and as Director of the Political and Security Cooperation Division, ASEAN Department from 2007 to 2008. He has a B.A. in English and an M.A. in political science and public administration. He was born on 15 May 1958 in Oudomxay province and is married with two children.
