NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GERMANY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Antje Leendertse, the new Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Leendertse had been serving as Head of the Task Force for the 2016 Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Chairmanship since February 2015. In 2014 and until January 2015, she was the Federal Government Commissioner for Disarmament and Arms Control at the Federal Foreign Office. From 2012 to 2014, she served as Special Envoy for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia at the Federal Foreign Office. She served as Head of Division for the Western Balkans at the Federal Foreign Office from 2009 to 2012.

A career diplomat, Ms. Leendertse entered the Foreign Service in 1990. She served at the Germany Embassy in Helsinki from 2007 to 2009; the German Embassy in London in 2005 and 2006; and the German Embassy in Moscow from 1993 to 1997. She has held a number of other posts at the Federal Foreign Office, including as Deputy Spokesperson from 2002 to 2005; she worked at the Press Division from 1999 to 2005, and at the United Nations Policy Division from 1997 to 1999.

Ms. Leendertse has a Master’s degree in medieval and modern history, romance languages, economics and philosophy from the University of Cologne (1989). She was born in Moers, Germany, on 7 March 1963, and is married with a daughter.
