NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BRAZIL PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Presentation of Credentials
Maria Nazareth Farani Azevedo, the new Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to her appointment, Ms. Farani Azevedo had been serving as Consul General of Brazil in Geneva since October 2013. From September 2008 to September 2013, she was the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations Office at Geneva. She was also based at the Permanent Mission of Brazil in Geneva from 1997 to 2001, representing Brazil at the World Trade Organization and negotiating environmental issues at the United Nations. Between 2003 and 2008, she was an Advisor for Political Affairs to Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Relations.
Ms. Farani Azevedo is a career diplomat. She graduated from the Brazilian diplomatic academy, Instituto Rio Branco, in 1982 and started her career at the Ministry of Foreign Relations, working on trade information and promotion. In 1988, she was posted at the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, and in 1991, she was posted at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the Latin America International Association in Montevideo, working on trade and economic issues during both assignments.
Ms. Farani Azevedo was born in Alegre, Espirito Santo, Brazil on 15 August 1957. She is married and has two daughters.
