NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF KUWAIT PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Jamal Mohammad Alghunaim, the new Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Alghunaim served, since 2010, as Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the League of Arab States. Between 2006 and 2010, Mr. Alghunaim was the Ambassador of Kuwait to Australia and New Zealand and from 2002 to 2006, he was the Ambassador of Kuwait to Poland.

A career diplomat, Mr. Alghunaim joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait in 1987 and has held posts both in Kuwait and overseas. He served as Deputy Chief of the Embassy of Kuwait to the United Kingdom in London from 1999 to 2002. Prior to that, he held the post of First Secretary, Head of the Political Section of the Embassy of Kuwait in Amman, Jordan between 1990 and 1999. From 1987 to 1990, he was the Diplomatic Attaché of the Office of the Deputy Premiere of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait.

Mr. Alghunaim obtained his Bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Kuwait University in 1987, and his Master’s degree in international relations from Jordan University in Amman in 1994. He was born on 4 April 1964 and is married.
