NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF YEMEN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Ali Mohamed Saeed Majawar, the new Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Majawar had been serving as Prime Minister of Yemen from March 2007 to November 2011. He served as Minister of Electricity from February 2006 to March 2007, and as Minister of Fish Resources from May 2003 to February 2006. He was Deputy Minister of Civil Service and Insurance from April 2002 to January 2003, and worked as the Manager of the public sector Albarh Cement Factory from January to May 2003. From 2007 to 2011, he also served as Chairman of the Supreme Economic Council, Chairman of the Supreme Universities Council, Chairman of the Supreme Civil Service Council, Chairman of the Supreme Population Council, and Chairman of the Supreme Women’s Council, among others.

Mr. Majawar worked at Aden University from April 1991 until March 2002, first as Head of the Business Administration Department, then as Dean of the Faculty of Oil and Minerals, then Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management, and finally as Dean of the Faculty of Administrative Science.

Mr. Majawar has a degree in business administration from Algeria University (1981); a Master degree in business administration from Grenoble 2 University in France (1987); and a PhD in business administration from Grenoble 2 University (1991). He was born on 22 June 1953, and is married with seven children.
