NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Thérèse Baptiste-Cornelis, the new Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Baptiste-Cornelis served as Government Minister for the Ministry of Health from May 2010 to June 2011. She was a lecturer and course coordinator at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad in the field of management and business strategy from October 2003 to May 2010. She also held the position of Director of Cornelis & Associates Ltd. Trinidad in the West Indies from 2000 to 2010. Prior to that appointment, she held job titles of Management Associate and Management Consultant at various commercial organizations.

Ms. Baptiste-Cornelis has participated in many seminars as Head of Delegation from Trinidad and Tobago, including the Commonwealth Meeting of Ministers of Health in Geneva, in May 2011, the regional High-Level Consultation of the Americas on Non-Communicable Diseases and Obesity in February 2011, and the Fourteenth International Conference on Drug Regulatory Authorities in Singapore in December 2010.

Ms. Baptiste-Cornelis holds an MBA with First Class Honours from the University of British Columbia, Canada. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of the West Indies, and she is presently writing a PhD in Entrepreneur Policy Development with Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad. Ms. Baptiste-Cornelis has also completed several job-related courses from the Brainbench Online Certification Authority and written many conference papers. She assists the Network of Non-Governmental Organizations for Women in Trinidad and Tobago and supports charity fundraisers. Ms. Baptiste-Cornelis was awarded the Faith Wiltshire Award in celebration of International Women’s Week, March 2004, for outstanding contribution to the development of information and communication technologies for women and girls in Trinidad and Tobago. Ms. Baptiste-Cornelis is married.
