NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BELGIUM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Francois Roux, the new Permanent Representative of Belgium to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Roux had been serving as Chef de Cabinet of the Secretary of State for European Affairs of Belgium. He was the Ambassador of Belgium to Rwanda from 2006 to 2008. Mr. Roux was Permanent Representative of Belgium to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 2004 to 2006. He also served as Political Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Belgium to the United Nations in New York from 1996 to 1999.

A career diplomat, Mr. Roux has held numerous other posts during his career, including as Deputy Permanent Representative of Belgium to the European Union (2002 to 2004); Deputy Chef de Cabinet at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of European questions; Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Belgium to the European Union (1992 to 1996); and Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Belgium to the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development in Rome (1989 to 1992).

Mr. Roux has a degree in economical sciences from the University of Paris II, Institute of Political Studies; and a degree in public and international affairs from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. He was born on 30 December 1957 in Guatemala Ciudad. He is married with two sons.
