NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TURKEY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Mustafa Oguz Demiralp, the new Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Demiralp had been serving as Turkey’s Ambassador in Bern since 2009. From 2006 to 2009, he served as Secretary General of the General Secretariat for European Union Affairs in Ankara. He was Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Turkey to the European Union in Brussels from 2002 to 2005, and was Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Turkey to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, serving as Chair of the Working Group on Trade and Investment and the Committee on Trade and Environment, from 2000 to 2002.

A career diplomat since 1978, Mr. Demiralp’s foreign posts include serving as Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative of Turkey to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg from 1993 to 1997; Counsellor in charge of political affairs, human rights and humanitarian issues at the Permanent Mission of Turkey to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 1987 to 1991; First Secretary at the Embassy of Turkey in Tehran from 1983 to 1985; and Vice Consul/Consul at the Consulate General of Turkey in Munich from 1978 to 1980. He has also held various posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara.

Mr. Demiralp was born on 22 January 1952 in Istanbul. He is a graduate of the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. He is married with two children.
