NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF HONDURAS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Roberto Flores Bermudez, the new Permanent Representative of Honduras to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Flores Bermudez had been serving as the Ambassador of Honduras to the United States since 2006. He also represented Honduras in the United States as Ambassador from 1994 to 1998, and as Counselor from 1982 to 1983. He served as Permanent Representative of Honduras to the United Nations in New York from 1990 to 1993, and as Deputy Permanent Representative in 1983.

Among his foreign posts, Mr. Flores Bermudez served as Ambassador of Honduras to Germany from 2002 to 2006, concurrently accredited to Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic. He was the Ambassador of Honduras to the United Kingdom in 1998 and in 1999. He served as First Secretary at the Honduran Embassy in London from 1977 to 1982, just after joining the Ministry for Foreign Relations.

The new Permanent Representative of Honduras has represented his country before the International Court of Justice concerning the affair between Nicaragua and Honduras since 2005. He has also served as Secretary of State at the Ministry for Foreign Relations from 1999 to 2002; Director-General for international organizations in 1990; Chef de Cabinet of the Secretary for Foreign Relations from 1988 to 1990; and Director-General for foreign policy from 1986 to 1988.

Mr. Flores Bermudez received a degree from the National Autonomous University of Honduras specialized in public international law in 1972. He followed other courses and studies in Nicaragua and Central America, as well as in London, Washington and New York, related to international relations.

Born in Tegucigalpa on 15 August 1949, Mr. Flores Bermudez is married with two children.
