NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF PARAGUAY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Federico Alberto Gonzalez Franco, the new Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Gonzalez Franco had been serving as Ambassador of Paraguay to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela since 2008. He was Paraguay’s Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2006 and 2007. Between 2004 and 2006 he served as Ambassador of Paraguay to the Republic of Korea and concurrently to Mongolia, and in 2006 he also served concurrently as Ambassador to Malaysia and Indonesia. From 2002 to 2004, he was Director-General for Multilateral Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay. From 1998 to 2001, he served at the Embassy of Paraguay in the United Kingdom.

A career diplomat, Mr. Gonzalez Franco served at the Embassy of Paraguay in Washington, D.C. from 1992 to 1996. He was the Director-General of the Cabinet of the Minister for Foreign Affairs between 1996 and 1998, and between 2001 and 2003.

Mr. Gonzalez Franco has a law degree from the National University of Asuncion (1991) and a diploma from the Diplomatic and Consular Academy of the Foreign Ministry in the same year. He has a Master in International Law from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C (1993) and a Master in International Trade from the University of Maryland (2000).

Born on 14 June 1968, Mr. Gonzalez Franco is married. In conjunction with his diplomatic career, Mr. Gonzalez Franco has taught international law, international relations and international trade in several universities and training institutions in Paraguay.
