NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF NEW ZEALAND PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Presentation of Credentials
Dell Higgie, the new Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to her appointment to Geneva, from 2003 to the present, Ms. Higgie had been serving as the Ambassador for Counter-Terrorism and Director of the Security Policy Division of the Foreign Ministry. From 1999 to 2003, she was Ambassador of New Zealand to Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg and the European Union.
Ms. Higgie entered the legal division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1981, rising to Head of the Human Rights Unit and Deputy Director of the United Nations and Commonwealth Division in 1989. Between 1990 and 1999, she served in turn as Deputy Director of the Australia Division; as Political Counsellor at the New Zealand Embassy in Washington, D.C.; and as International Trade Law Adviser.
Ms. Higgie has a master’s in law from Cambridge University, England, with First Class Honours in International Law. She received two bachelor’s degrees – in law and English literature – from Victoria University of Wellington.
