NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ZAMBIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Darlington Mwape, the new Permanent Representative of Zambia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Mwape had been serving as Legal Advisor to the President of Zambia since January 2002. His duties included, among others, advising the President on Constitutional duties, powers and rights of his office; briefing the President on international agreements; advising the President during international engagements with the United Nations or the African Union or other international entities; scrutinizing statutory instruments for the President’s signature and bills for his assent; and advising on the governance programme for the Government.

Mr. Mwape has represented Zambia at many bilateral and international conferences, including United Nations events, and has accompanied the President of Zambia on numerous official visits and high-level meetings and summits.

Mr. Mwape, an advocate, spent the first part of his career working in the private sector. He was born on 15 January, 1969 in Chingola, Zambia. He is married. He has a Bachelor of Laws degree, as well as a Council of Legal Education Certificate and a Certificate of Admission to practice as an advocate.
