NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF NIGER PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Adani Illo, the new Permanent Representative of Niger to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Illo had been serving as Deputy Permanent Representative of Niger to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris since 2004. From 2001 to 2004, he served as First Counsellor at Niger’s Embassy in Brussels and the Permanent Mission of Niger to the European Union.

A career diplomat since he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Niger in 1982, Mr. Illo has served in various capacities at the Ministry, including as Technical Counsellor at the Ministry from 1999 to 2001 and Secretary-General of the Ministry from 1996 to 1997. He was Coordinator of the National Commission for the Repatriation of Refugees and Head of Project from 1997 to 1999. His foreign assignments include serving as First Counsellor at the Embassy of Niger in Washington from 1988 to 1991, and as Charge d’Affairs at the Embassy in Washington from 1991 to 1992.

Mr. Illo graduated with a degree in political science from the University of Rabat in Morocco (1979), and has a Master’s degree in law from the University of Nice in France (1980). He also obtained diplomas in international law and development from the University of Nice (1981), and from the Institute of International Relations in Yaounde, Cameroon (1985), and a certificate from the Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland (1997).

Born on 28 July, 1956 in Tanout, Niger, Mr. Illo is married with three children.
