NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF OMAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Yahya Salem Hamad Al-Wahaibi, the new Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Al-Wahaibi had been serving as Head of the Human Resources Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2007. From 2002 to 2007, he was the Head of the Consular Department. He served as Oman’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from 1995 to 2002. He was the Director of the Arab League Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1995.
A career diplomat, Mr. Al-Wahaibi’s foreign postings include serving at Oman’s Embassy in Cairo from 1990 to 1993; Oman’s Embassy in Vienna from 1987 to 1990; Oman’s Embassy in Kuwait from 1982 to 1985; and Oman’s Embassy in Jeddah from 1980 to 1982. He was the Foreign Minister’s Secretary from 1985 to 1987. He joined the Directorate of Scholarship and Foreign Relations at the Ministry of Education in 1978 and was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1980.
Mr. Al-Wahaibi studied mineral engineering for three years in the United States and law in Egypt for one year. He was born in Muscat, Oman on 11 August 1954. He is married with four children.
