NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ITALY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, the new Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Caracciolo di Vietri had been serving as Director-General in charge of European countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome since 2004. He was Italy’s Ambassador to Belgrade from 2000 to 2004, and was Deputy Director-General in charge of Italians living abroad and migration policies at the Ministry from 1996 to 2000.

A career diplomat, Mr. Caracciolo di Vietri’s foreign posts include being Consul General of Italy in Paris from 1992 to 1996; First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Washington from 1980 to 1986; and First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Addis Ababa from 1977 to 1980. He started his diplomatic career in 1971, one year after obtaining a degree in law from the University of Naples.

Mr. Caracciolo di Vietri was born in Rome on 5 December 1947.
