NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BAHRAIN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, the new Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Abdulla had been serving as the Deputy Head of Mission of Bahrain's Embassy in London from 2001 to 2005, with responsibilities for the political, commercial and consular sections. He attended the meeting of the Forum for the Future which was held in Bahrain in November 2005, and participated in preparatory sessions for the Forum in 2004 and 2005.
A career diplomat who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain in 1981, Mr. Abdulla has represented Bahrain in United Nations meetings and conferences and other international events. These include attending the UN General Assembly's sessions in 1994, 1997 and 1998; meetings of human rights organizations; the Ninth International Energy Forum ministerial conference in Amsterdam in 2004; the First Review Session of the Chemical Weapons Convention in The Hague in 2003; Wilton Park conferences; annual conferences of Britain's political parties; and meetings of the permanent committee for administrative and financial affairs for the Gulf Cooperation Council States, the Arab League and the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
Mr. Abdulla has an MSc in financial administration and economy from Scotland (1990); a BSc in business administration and accountancy from Bahrain University (1987); and an IT certificate from Scotland (1985).
Born on 6 November 1963, Mr. Abdulla is married with four children.
