NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SLOVENIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Andrej Logar, the new Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Logar had been serving as the Director-General for European Union and Bilateral Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia. From 2003 to 2005, he was a State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2001, he was Ambassador of Slovenia to Lithuania; in 2000, Ambassador to Norway and Iceland; and in 1999, he was Ambassador to Denmark.

In 1998, Mr. Logar served as the Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chief of Cabinet to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia. In 1997, he served as State Undersecretary, Chief of Cabinet to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as head of the department for neighbouring countries in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served at the Permanent Mission of Slovenia to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 1993 to 1997, first as a Counsellor and then as Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Permanent Representative. Other foreign assignments of Mr. Logar include being Consul at the Consulate General in Goteborg, Sweden from 1988 to 1991.

After graduating in 1977 from the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, Mr. Logar worked as a professor at the High School and then was the Head of the Intermunicipal Study Centre. He joined the Federal Secretariat for Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1987. He speaks English, German, Swedish and French.

Mr. Logar was born on 28 January 1951 in Maribor, and is married and has two children.
