C’est un honneur pour moi d’être avec vous pour inaugurer cette fresque de la paix conçue par Monsieur Hans Erni. Permettez-moi d’exprimer toute ma gratitude aux autorités fédérales, cantonales et municipales pour cette initiative, qui met en valeur une fois de plus les liens très forts entre les Nations Unies et notre pays hôte, à tous les niveaux.

Throughout his working life, Hans Erni has been an eloquent and effective advocate for the United Nations. I am thankful to Mr. Erni for putting his creativity and commitment at the service of this Organization.

This panel is a powerful expression of the core mission of the United Nations: to build a more peaceful, prosperous and just world for all. The figures here show how we are united by our common humanity. The United Nations was founded to serve this human family. This extraordinary panel will now be a symbolic link with those we work for: the peoples of the world.

This artwork highlights the promise of the United Nations. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that this Organization fulfils its potential as a force for peace, development and human rights. When we combine the determination and drive of all, we can shape a world free of fear and want.
