Chers invités :

Il y a un an, nous avons célébré le dixième anniversaire de l’adhésion de la Suisse à l’Organisation des Nations Unies. Á cette occasion, notre pays hôte nous a fait un cadeau très unique et très apprécié : dix ruches en activité. Aujourd’hui, c’est avec plaisir que je vous accueille pour le vernissage de l’exposition qui célèbre non seulement ce don mais aussi les importantes contributions de la Suisse au développement durable, l’une des principales priorités des Nations Unies. J’aimerais exprimer ma profonde gratitude à l’Ambassadeur Fasel et à la Mission Permanente de la Suisse pour l’organisation de cet évènement et pour nous offrir des photographies aussi vivantes.

I would also like to thank the Swiss for their continued and unwavering support to the United Nations in Geneva, which has taken many shapes and forms over the years. From beehives to the current building works taking place on our grounds, their generous contributions will result in a greener and more sustainable Palais des Nations - to the benefit of all.

This exhibition - and the Swiss Apiary in Ariana Park -highlight Switerland’s commitment to sustainable energy and agriculture. They also speak to the delicate link between humans and nature and the responsibility to take action for greater environmental sustainability. By promoting bees and beekeeping – as well as many other sustainable initiatives - Switzerland leads by example.

Green growth; clean energy; sustainable development - these words are now part of the lexicon of the United Nations and the whole international community. What we see in the actions of Switzerland show a true commitment to turning these words into reality.
