GROUP OF GOVERNMENTAL EXPERTS TO CONSIDER THE ROLE OF VERIFICATION IN ADVANCING NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT ADOPTS CONSENSUAL REPORT

The Group of Governmental Experts to consider the role of verification in advancing nuclear disarmament, established by UN General Assembly resolution 71/67of 2016, concluded its work today with the adoption of a consensual report.

Following the adoption of the final report of the Group, the Chair - Ambassador Knut Langeland of Norway - noted that the report represents an important contribution to the nuclear disarmament agenda.

Twenty-five States were invited by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to participate in the Group, on the basis of the principle of equitable geographical representation: Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Russian Federation, South Africa, Switzerland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and United States of America.
